Roll Call
What do you do to pay the bills?
At the moment, I’m writing for a TV Guide magazine while longingly waiting for that golden opportunity to make my move into the radio industry. Being a writer is not what I hope to do for the rest of my life but hey, I’ve got to start somewhere.
Why am I asking you questions?
I have no idea. But I wouldn’t mind believing that it’s because you think I’m a nice person who can give decent answers to questions.
What does Soul Food mean to you?
Soul food is any food item that brings about a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach upon consumption. Example: soul food to me, is tucking into my grandma’s and mom’s cooking after spending time abroad where Asian restaurants serve food that are not all that Asian.
If you could create any food and music experience what would it be?
A pool-side concert featuring great music acts and a massive pool of beer that I can soak and dance around in while enjoying the show.
Kosher or Sea Salt?
Sea Salt because people say it’s healthier. And believing that I’m doing something good for my body makes me happy (or at least less guilty when I’m chowing down on junk food).
Wine or Cocktails?
Cocktails. Tried wine a few times and didn’t like it. Even took the effort to pretend to be a wine expert by swirling the wine in the glass, sniffing it and sipping it slowly – still didn’t work.
Prosciutto or Spam?
I would pick one if I knew what each of these are. Okay, a Wikipedia search reveals Spam as some sort of canned meat and Prosciutto as dry-cured ham. I’ll go with Prosciutto. Why take a lump of mystery meat in a can?
Who is your favorite Iron Chef?
That dude who masters in Chinese food. I don’t know why I prefer him. I just do.
What is your favorite thing to smoke?
Smoked salmon. It’s like tasting a slice of heaven on my tastebuds!
What is your favorite music to listen to while cooking, after Soul Food of course?
Normally, when I’m attempting to cook, I don’t need to have any music on because I’ll be too busy freaking out about under-cooking the chicken breast or burning the wok. However, at the top of my head, three songs that I do fancy listening at any time are Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, Jason Mraz’s Live High and All American Rejects’ I Wanna.
Top 3 food experiences after Nyood, Kultura and Madras Pantry of course?
• When I discovered the love of Kimchi Chi Geh at a little Korean shop in Australia. Korean friends claim the food there is even better than Korea’s!
• Downing a Slurpee after an amazing concert so fast I ended up with a massive brain freeze.
• Eating raw octopus that is soaked in some concoction with lemon juice and wasabi. Weirdly amazing.
